David Mora is an investigative reporter and documentary news producer from Colombia, currently living in New York City. He reports and produces short, mid-length documentaries, features and breaking news stories, with domestic and international scopes.
His work is centered on the experiences of people who face political and social systems that failed them. His video experience covers pre-production and production roles (research, pitching, budgeting, field-producing, interviewing sources, managing field crews) and coordinating with post-production teams (graphics, video editing, color/mix) for broadcast and digital delivery. Trained as an investigative journalist, David also is also familiar with deep-research reporting tools and data gathering/analysis.
His reporting has been recognized with multiple awards, including a News and Documentary Emmy for Outstanding Feature Story in Spanish; an Overseas Press Club of America for Best international TV reporting showing a concern for the human condition; a Peabody News award; and an Edward R. Murrow award in the Hard News category. He was also a 2022 finalist for the Livingston Award for Excellence in International Reporting.
Most recently, as a freelancer, David has collaborated with documentary, news video, and podcast projects, providing research, language and investigative reporting skills. Among the outlets he has worked for are This American Life, The Wall Street Journal, and UpNorth Films. He also authored a UNESCO report exploring the violence faced by environmental journalists across the globe and taught an investigative/data seminar at Columbia University’s Graduate School of Journalism.
